Initially, Strawberry Shortcake was just a cartoon that decorated cards sold by American Greetings. As time went on, she became something of an icon, with a lineup that included posters, dolls, TV series and movies. Strawberry Shortcake dolls were first released in 1979 by Kenner Products.
At that time, the original doll looked like an ordinary rag doll. She had freckles, a curl of red curly wool for her hair, and a strawberry print hat. These original dolls are worth US$ 40 on auction sites. In the 1980s, the line took off and Strawberry Shortcake gained many new friends, including Blueberry Muffin, Lemon Meringue, Orange Blossom, among others.
