The John B. Stetson Company is one of America's best-known hat manufacturers. In 1865, John Stetson went west. With only $ 100, he rented a small room and bought $ 10 worth of skins. Stetson had a knack for making fabrics from untanned fur, and after making some rustic hats for himself, he decided to go into business with his trade. In true American style, he created an empire from nothing.

Original Stetson hats, known as “Boss of the Plains” hats, sell for up to US$ 1,000. Although Stetson makes 3.3 million hats a year, there aren't many Boss of the Plains hats that date back to the early days of a quarter.
