184. Velvet Underground's “Scepter Studios” Album

Manufacturer: polydor
original price: $6-$8*
Value today: $155,000*

The Velvet Underground Scepter Studio Sessions album was a limited edition release on the group's record label, Polydor. Only 5,000 copies were released, and the first acetate-cut versions from 1966 are known to sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The first Velvet Underground record was recorded the same year it was cut, and had already sold at auction for $25,000. Just a few years later, that price has quadrupled. The Scepter Studio Sessions had nine songs on cut acetate, although ten were recorded in total. "There She Goes Again" was not included on the disc for unspecified reasons.
