The company Parker Brothers created the game Fortune, also known as “Fortune: The Game of Trading and Speculation”. Looking at it, it's easy to see the resemblance to the modern Monopoly game. Only 5,000 copies of this pre-Monopoly game were created. Parker Brothers produced Fortune before it had the rights to create Monopoly.
When Fortuna was created, the Parker brothers only had a Darrow file for patenting. They didn't want to risk the patent not passing, so Fortuna was a placeholder. Due to the game's rarity (and the difficulty of finding one in good condition, as they were produced in 1935), the Fortune is now worth over $$ 1,000 on auction sites.
